If you are not a fan of thick foundations or simply prefer subtle make-up, BB and CC creams are just the thing for you. Products for a fair complexion are perfect for giving your skin a more beautiful appearance and are very easy to apply. To choose them, you should know some important differences.

BB creams (also known as beauty balms) are usually lightweight, contain skin-friendly mixture and offer sheer coverage. CC creams help to correct the color of the complexion and tend to be more opaque than BB creams. We’ll soon see how you can decide whether a BB cream or a CC cream is right for you.

Should I use a BB cream or a CC cream?

As they emphasize the benefits of skincare, BB creams usually contain an SPF and moisturizing mixture such as hyaluronic acid. While they certainly provide superior coverage than a tinted moisturizer, you shouldn’t expect your BB cream to compete with a full coverage foundation. Rather, the goal is to solve your skincare concerns and go makeup-free.

One formula we love is the cream, BB Cool Maybelline New York Makeup Dream. It’s super creamy and glides on perfectly, moisturizing skin and smoothing away imperfections in its wake. It offers a broad spectrum SPF 30 and gives the skin a fresh finish.

CC creams should be your choice if you want to soften redness or an uneven complexion. They can help cover dark spots and conceal acne, and often have skincare benefits such as SPF. One of our favorites is the CC dermablend SPF 50 + continuous correction cream. It helps to visibly minimize the appearance of redness, discoloration and dark spots, provides SPF 50 sun protection and helps to improve skin’s radiance over time. The formula is air-permeable and non-comedogenic and provides an opaque, long-lasting finish.

Can I use a BB Cream and a CC Cream at the same time?

Although you don’t necessarily need to have both in your arsenal, BB and CC creams have slightly different purposes, which is why mixing the two can help you perfect your complexion. Both products can be applied with your hands, a damp beauty sponge or a brush. Start by applying your BB Cream to give your face a radiant glow from within. In areas where you want to cover spots or reduce redness, apply your CC cream on top.
